This week I had to write a small autobiography for a college class. In this autobiography, I gave respect and admiration to some special people in my life who influenced me to be what I am. As I was doing this, I began to realize how important influences can be to us. A person’s influence on us can direct how we feel about certain things and how we do certain things. A person’s influence on us could determine who we select as our friends and enemies. Also, A person’s influence on us could contribute to or compromise our spiritual beliefs.

This is a message I preached on a few weeks ago at the FMC. It took me all day to figure out what I wanted to say, and I didn’t actually realize what I was saying until I was behind the podium saying it. In the end, I realized that God was really guiding the whole thing, because the entire time, I felt inadequate and thought it was going to flop. But thanks to God, it turned out well, so I decided to share the main thoughts of that sermon with you.

Matthew 21:12-14 says, “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
