Power

Spiritual Thoughts

In acts 1:8 Jesus said that we would receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon us. He also said in John 14:12 that we would do greater works than He did. Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, caused the lame to walk, and the blind to see. We have that same power in us!

Power, be it miracle-working power, political power, physical power, or any other kind, is worthless unless you have the courage to use it. If a ruler of a country comes to power but doesn’t use his authority to do something then nothing will change and the power is wasted.

In the same way God has given us the authority over demons and sickness and anything else that would come against us, but if we don’t have the courage to go out seeking the lost to see them saved then the best power in the universe is wasted.

If you have the Holy Ghost then you have this power. Go use it. As Eric G said in a previous post; Do it! Just remember that it’s not your power, you’re just the one using it. the power belongs to Jesus, the almighty God.

I remember watching a video (vhs…this was a long time ago) on the “Power Team”. Here is link for all the youngsters that don’t know about the power team. I must have been about 10 at the time (I told you it was a long time ago). I remember that they would quote scripture, rip phone books, and destroy random stuff (boards, blocks of ice, etc.). I recall that even at 10 it seemed silly. I knew that Jesus did not die to give us power to rip phone books. I wonder what these huge muscle-bound guys would have done if they encountered the real power. We have this REAL power…. Let’s do something constructive with it!

That’s a really interesting point. I can’t say I’d really thought of it quite like that. It reminds me of a line from (and most of you already know that I’m a nerd, so I’m not ashamed to say it) Star Wars, when Han Solo said, “What good is your reward if you ain’t around to use it?” I always wondered why you would have fancy china and never eat off it. I have trouble recognizing style because I can’t get past the functionality issues. The Holy Ghost is the same way. This gift is much more valuable than expensive china, but only if we eat off it, so to speak. And yet, all too often we find ourselves putting our Holy Ghost on display while at church, and keeping it hidden from the world. It’s time to let our light shine. It’s ok to be the only one at work with a genuine smile all day long. It’s ok to sing or whistle cheery tunes in the seventh hour of your shift. That’s what we’re here for. Let’s shine.

Your blog rocks, Ryan. We have been given power and we need to use it. Sometimes I think the reason we don’t use the power God has given us is because we are afraid. We start believing we don’t have what it takes to use the power God has given us. And the truth is, we don’t. That’s why power comes after we receive the Holy Ghost. And whenever we feel incapable to use the power God has given us, the Holy Ghost serves as an aide to lead us and guide us in how to use the power. Yep, that’s right; the Holy Ghost is “Powerade”. We alone are incapable of handling the power God wants to give us, but with the Holy Ghost guiding us, we can do great things for God. But not because we are anything special, because we have the “Powerade” or the Holy Ghost in us. With the Holy Ghost aiding us, we can reach our world for Jesus.
